Making The Case For Home Worship

By Bryan Pully (Gospel Minister)

There is much more to Worshipping God than just going to Church. There are many ways to Worship God in our everyday lives that do not include going to Church. There are lots of people these days who go to Church every Sunday without fail! Never missing a beat! And they'll let you know it! Yet for the rest of the week, there is no mention of God in their lives and they do not pray to Him or read the Bible! You may go to Church every Sunday and not Worship the rest of the week, That does not make you Religious. People want to Worship on Sunday but when they get home, there is no room for God, no time. What about you? Is God on the outside of your life looking in? Lets take a few minutes to go over some other ways that we can Worship.

First, am I saying that you should never go to Church? No! Absolutely not! Going to Church is important, and part of that importance is Worshipping in a group. People feel bad because they can not make it to Church every weekend. Don't feel bad! I think it is important to expose your children to the Church, but if you are a busy professional or retired and your Children are grown, I think it's o.k. for you not to go to Church.

One very important way to Worship God everyday is to pray! TALK TO GOD! Pray for your loved ones and for others. Don't always just pray for yourself and tell God what things you want. Just be sure that when you talk to God, thank Him for all the wonderful things He does and for all the blessings in your life.

Another way is to be nice to people. Don't be nasty and talk about people that you don't like behind their backs. When someone does you wrong, dont hate them, and dont try to get revenge on them. It takes a very strong and humble person to Forgive someone. So when someone makes you angry, just be the bigger man and walk away, dont stew and be angry! Remember the Ten Commandments! It is up to God to judge people, not us. Being nice to people is a way to Worship God because that is what he wants.

Two other easy ways to Worship are 1. Keep a prayer book. Write your prayers down for God everyday and tell him what you are thankful for in your life. Write him letters about things that concern you and areas of your life that you need His help. This is an excellent way for you to Worship the Lord and build a personal relationship with Him. 2. Volunteer your services. Wether it be something you can do for the Church or anything that you can do that is Goodwill. Remember, Goodwill to each other is what God wants from us. A personal relationship with God, and Goodwill to your fellow man are both exellent ways to Worship the Lord without going to Church.

In closing, I am not saying that you should never go to Church, For in the Book of Matthew 18:20 Our Lord Jesus said " For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst." So yes! when we have time to go to Church or on Important Holidays, We should go to Church.

On the other hand, To make the case for Worshipping at home, Again in the Book of Matthew 6:1-7 Our Lord Jesus also said "Beware of practicing your Worship before men, to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in Heaven. "So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues, and in the streets so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. "But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. So that you're giving will be done in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have received their reward in full." "But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees what is done in secret will reward you." And when you are praying, Do not use meaningless repetition like the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard by their many words. So do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him,

"Pray then, in this way

"Our Father, Who art in Heaven,

Hallowed be Your Name,

Your Kingdom Come,

Your Will be done,

On earth as it is in Heaven,

Give us this day our daily bread,

And forgive us our debts, As we have forgiven our debtors,

And do not lead us into temptation,

But deliver us from evil,

For yours is the Kingdom, and the Power,

And the Glory Forever, Amen.
